Lydia Ko Gears Up for 2017

Lydia Ko Gears Up for 2017

November 29, 2016

From winning Young New Zealander of the Year to competing at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, it’s been a great year for Lydia Ko. Coming to the end of 2016, we caught up with our brand ambassador to reflect on her year.

It’s been another exciting year for you! What are you most proud of this year?
I'm really most proud of competing in the Olympics and ending up being a medalist standing up on the podium representing my country. I also finished as the #1 player in the world, which is a big achievement as there are some great players starting to emerge on the tour.

You’ve been on a lot of flights, heading to tournaments all over the world. What’s your favourite place that you visited in 2016?
My favourite place that I've visited is probably Paris but that wasn't for a tournament, it was just a quick visit. I think Paris is always a dream place that people want to go to, so I guess I've checked it off my bucket list. There is just something very special about being in a place like Paris. It’s magical.

With all of your travelling, have you picked up any new travel tips?
Travel as light as possible. On the road, instead of losing the stuff you had you get more stuff and feel like you need to get another bag. Travelling light allows for some shopping and anything you pick up on the way. Of course I use 1Above on every trip which makes a big difference for my travel wellbeing.

It must be a good feeling to come back to New Zealand after a busy season. What’s your favourite thing about coming home?
It's probably being able to see my friends and hang out with them, and just experiencing being back at home and seeing beautiful beaches. I travel to some amazing places but there is nothing like being at home!

Have you got any plans over the Christmas and New Year?
My plan is to be in Korea and hopefully it will be a White Christmas! Living in Florida there isn't a lot of snow! Really looking forward to just relaxing and recuperating with my family and friends in Korea.

It looks like 2016 has definitely been an awesome year for you, full of great accomplishments and lots of jet setting. Looking ahead to next year, what are you hoping to achieve in 2017?
Hopefully I'll be able to give myself some good runs at the majors again. I think the majors are the tournaments that lots of players try to work towards and hopefully peak to so hopefully I'll have some opportunities to be in contention in the majors. Apart from that its about working hard and trying to get as much out of the game as possible.

We’re looking forward to seeing Lydia succeed in 2017 and helping her arrive ready to perform at her best. To celebrate Lydia’s accomplishments this year, we’re offering 20% off all tablets purchased online. Enter ‘TAB20’ at the checkout until 23rd December to get 20% off.

We all feel the benefit from a good night’s sleep.  Getting the right amount of sleep is paramount for a healthy and productive lifestyle, but many of us struggle to get the rest we need.  Everyday stresses can lead to restless nights, and for shift workers, frequent flyers, flight and cabin crew operating in different time zones, proper sleep can be something of a challenge.

Flying takes its toll on the body, but there are steps you can take to recover quickly.

The cabin environment affects your body, disrupting hormones, digestion and weakening your immune system, leaving you feeling bloated, tired and run- down. In general, your digestion doesn’t operate at its best when flying, so I’d recommend avoiding a big meal just before and during flight. But when you just can’t wait, there are foods you can eat to mitigate the effects and bounce back faster.
